Dan Sanford is a Professor Emeritus of Whitworth University in Spokane and former President of the Spokane Watercolor Society. His paintings portray images of the Pacific Northwest where he has lived most of his life. Additional subjects of his paintings include gardens, floral arrangements and scenes from his travels in Asia, Central America, Europe and North America.
A tradition of quick application of color and a strong emphasis on mood give fresh results to Sanford's paintings. His paintings convey contrasting feelings of festivity or serenity. The artist leads the viewer to experience delight in the harmony of perfect contrasting color, reflection, surprising foreground and majestic distant images.
Originally the artist studied under professor Pauline Haas and also studied with Chinese painters when he lived in Taiwan. He continues to use Chinese brushes and media. Since becoming fluent in Mandarin, Dr. Sanford has chosen to use his Chinese name along with English to sign his work.
Have you seen a Sanford original or print? Recent trips to Europe are our current inspiration! We look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event!
